I’m Not Cold Hearted (VIII)

At that moment all I thought about was what would happen to me if I ran away into the desert, would I survive, or would I die from thirst? I guess I was too scared to even think about running away.

We approached the cruise and before climbing aboard they took pictures of us and scanned our fingerprints then we ascended into the upper deck where they explained the emergency drills and the rooms, they also told us that there are one thousand children already onboard. After that they started handing each one of three us cards, one was for the emergency drill, the other was a credit card and the third was our room card. All of those cards had our names on them but no our real names. I thought it was a mistake so I told the guard.

“My name is Harry Jones not Aaron White?!”

“ Not anymore kid, as long as you work for us, Harry Jones is DEAD!” Said the guard.

“But what about Blake, why didn’t you change his name?” I screamed.

“ Blake’s real name is Andrew Jackson, but if I hear you say that then it’ll be the last thing you say” He answered angrily.

Then he pushed Blake and I into our cabin and closed the door.

I stared anxiously at the cabin, it had two beds, Flat screen TV, laptop, mini fridge, and a Jacuzzi plus shower in the bathroom. The windows were vast, as big as a balcony’s. It looked like the room I slept in earlier and that’s when Blake said.

“I told you, living with them is going to be way better then with our actual parents.”

“ I don’t get it, how would we do them any good, you know we are just kids.” I asked impatiently.

“ They need us, first they’re going to train us, teach us at the best schools and universities, buy us anything we want, then they’re going to give you missions that you’ll have to accomplish.”

I wanted to ask him how he knew all that but I wasn’t in the mood to hear another explanation so I unpacked the bag they gave me earlier, took a shower, and leaped into my bed.

The engine started and we drove away. We stayed on an old deserted road in the middle of nowhere for hours until we saw our first glimpse of the shore. As we got closer to it, one of the guards took out a blue book full of lists. Then two of the guards argued about if we can leave the bus or stay until their boss command’s them to. We waited in the bus for fifteen minutes until they ordered us to leave but stand in a line outside the bus. As we were standing, they did a roll call like teachers did in schools. They called my name “Harry Jones!” and I stood up without moving a muscle thinking that if I don’t do what they say then I’d be tortured to death.

My legs started shaking and so did my hands, I was too scared, too petrified to move. The guards pushed and made us walk for an hour to the pier, then we saw this huge cruise liner with the army’s flag on it but it wasn’t just the army’s flag it also had another logo on it which I believe is the agency’s logo.

Then suddenly someone slammed the door open, for a second I thought someone came for me but I was wrong. It was that man from before; he said his name was Ryan something. He took me to a black van, it looked like a bus and it was full of kids my age and older. Four guards were sitting in the back and one near the driver.

He pushed me in and one of the guards told me to sit next to an older boy named Blake, he had short black hair, hazel eyes, he was skinny and he looked pretty beaten up.  He explained that this was no game and that he got beat up because he wanted to escape. He also said that they were taking us to a military school, and that they are capable of giving us whatever we want or need. He even stated that we’d have a better life with them than with our parents but only if we obey the rules.

“Why am I in a room like this?” I asked anxiously.

“What do you mean like this?” He asked sarcastically.

I screamed at him.“ You just told me that I was abducted and now your putting me in this pricey room, you think this is funny?”

Then the man got angry and told me to shut up and he also said that I wasn’t the only one, he said they choose about fifty kids my age but only the healthy ones to train them and make them “secret agents”. Then the two guards threw me on the bed and locked the door and told me to get a good night sleep.

I stayed in that room for weeks; I even stopped counting after two or three days. They would insert the food through the door and leave. I found a couple of outfits and a pajama in the closet and that was all.

I was in disbelief; thinking it was all just another one of those tricks made by my family or friends. So I decided to play along and I told them that I would be more than happy to join and they clearly looked pleased and told me to follow them into my “cabin”. We kept walking into corridors and going down stairs. The lights were dimmed and the corridor seemed quite and empty. Two guards with masculine bodies and that man surrounded me, I couldn’t move an inch without bumping into them and lets just say I had no intentions into bumping into them. We went through another corridor and went inside a room. The room looked luxurious and classy like those five-star hotels that my family never took me and my brothers to. The room also had those fifty-inch screen TV’s that belonged to all those young celebrities. It also had its own bathroom that was as big as my parent’s and mine combined. I couldn’t possibly list everything that the room had.

Their boss came in and asked me if I would want to “work” with them, I answered them quickly, “What do you mean, I’m only twelve I cant do anything for you. He responded that he wants me and that if I don’t “join” them, then he’ll slaughter everyone I know and care about.

Thinking about their death’s made me agree but soon after I asked, “What if they come and get me”. His answer petrified me, he said “How would they bring you from the dead?” and when I asked him what he meant he said “ To them, you are dead and they must have buried you by now.” I freaked out and he told me that before when they abducted me, they replaced me with another deceased boy and my parents think I died in a car accident. I said, “what about the police? Wont they find out?” and he explained that they work with the police and they are actually an undercover agency.
